How To Install A New Game Boy Cartridge Battery

Items Needed For Beginner Install: 3.8 MM security gamebit tool, small knife, electrical tape, CR2032 replacement battery.
Items Needed For Advanced Install: 3.8 MM security gamebit tool, soldering iron, de-soldering braid (optional), small knife, electrical tape, CR2032 replacement battery.

There are 2 guides, the first is a beginner guide, the second is a more advanced guide. Note that there are smaller size batteries in some Game Boy games, however the process is still the same.
BEGINNER METHOD
Get all of your necessary tools together.

1) You know your battery is dead, so let's go ahead an replace it. We will be testing the battery in a Pokemon game.

2) Take out the 1 screw with the 3.8 MM security gamebit tool.

4) Screw is out.

5) Push the bottom up.

6) Pull off the top.

7) Take out the board.
 View Original
8) The GB board.
 View Original
9) Grab your knife and release the top piece holding the battery.

10) The piece is released, it doesn't look pretty, but it works.

11) Release the bottom piece holding the battery.

12) Remove the battery.

13) Straighten out the pieces that touch the battery.

14) Put the battery back in.

15) Tape the battery secure like shown below. Make sure that both top and bottom ends touch the battery.

16) Put the board back in the bottom GB case.

17) Put the top back on and screw back in.

18) Installation is complete!

ADVANCED METHOD
1) This method will help your connection on the battery. Grab your soldering iron.

2) Take off the battery holders with your soldering iron.

3) The battery should be released.

4) Take off the pieces holding the battery.
 View Original
5) Tape the pieces that hold the battery back on securely with electrical tape.

6) Your work should look like below.

7) Solder the battery back in place.

8) Everything should be 100% secure, now put everything back together. Follow the guide above if you forgot how to finish the install.
