How To Install The XCM Rapid Fire Gear Lite Xbox 360 (Hard)

View Original
_____________________________________________________

Guide Provided By: XCM Live Narrated By G.G.
Estimated Time: 1-3 Hours
Experience Level: Expert
Items Needed: T8 Screwdriver, soldering iron, solder, wire, desoldering wick (optional), wire cutter (optional), Small knife (preferably an exacto knife), pliers (optional).

This more difficult rapid fire lite install method allows you to set the A, B, X, Y, RB, LB, RT and LT buttons to rapid fire mode. If this guide seems to difficult, use the easier guide LOCATED HERE. The easier guide will not allow you to use any top buttons as rapid fire. Also, please note there are 2 different controller board version types. Make sure to follow the correct one.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This item does not work with the newer version 3 wireless controller motherboard.

You can start by taking off your battery pack to see what version controller you have. Simply look at the exposed motherboard. An easy way to tell the difference is the version 2 & 3 motherboard usually has a resister on the board circled below. Occasionally you will run across version 2 motherboard that does not have a resister as shown below. I would say version 2 controllers are slightly easier to work on. Note that there is sometimes variations on the motherboard. Sometimes you may think you have a version 1 controller after looking on the inside behind the battery pack, but you may actually have a version 2.

3) Replacing the LT & RT buttons is completely optional. You may leave in your original white RT & LT buttons if you wish.

4) Your controller should now be completely dissembled. Install your new LT & RT buttons.

6) Gently scrape away the green material with a sharper object such as an exacto knife at the surface points shown below. Once you do this, you will be able to solder to the board. To be 100% sure where to scratch away, line up your "XCM Soft Yellow PCB" on the board and scratch away where needed. This is for quick solder installation of this yellow PCB. IMPORTANT: Make sure to cut all traces before you install the PCB.[/size]

8) Cutting traces is not as hard as it looks. Make sure you get yourself a nice sharp object such as an exacto knife. Push down with a little force and keep cutting over the trace line. You know you've gone deep enough once you see a brownish color underneath the green board.

9) . Make sure to cut the RTO trace before soldering on the "Soft Yellow PCB".

11) The bottom wire in <4> can be routed on top w/ the other wires. You do not have to route the wire on the bottom of the controller if you do not want.

12) The next few pictures will show a version 2 PCB ribbon installed. Although there are not as many solder points on the version 2 ribbon cable as the version 1 you are installing, you should get the basic idea of how it should look installed.

13) Note: Again this is a version 2 PCB ribbon installed, it is only to show you the basics of installing the PCB.

17) Take out the screw that the arrow is pointing to below. Gently pull up the board with a screwdriver or something similar. Once the board is a pulled up higher it is easier to install the PCB piece. (Again this was being done on a version 2 board, you may have noticed the solder bridge different than your version 1).

18) Once you put the board back in the ribbon cable should slightly show like below.

19) Put the rest of the controller together and it should be ready to go.

20) If you are having issues with the left analog stick clicking when you hold it down and turn to the right, then you will need to shave off some of the board like shown in the picture below. You can simply do this with a sharp object such as an exacto knife. Be sure not to shave to far as there is a bus line that runs inside.

Troubleshooting Guide

Problem: None of my rapid fire buttons are working.
Solution: Go back and look at your install. Make sure all wires are properly connected to the correct points on the yellow PCB. Make sure all trace lines are cut properly. Make sure your wires are connected securely to all points on the board.

Problem: When I click on the turbo button, one of my rapid fire buttons lights up instantly and nothing works?
Solution: Go back and look at your install. The button that lights up right away when you press the turbo button most likely just needs the trace cut as you probably forgot to do so.

Problem: I am having difficulties plugging in the yellow PCB cable to the controller.
Solution: Take out the screw like shown in the picture 17 above. Lift the board and it will be easier to plug this wire in.

Problem: When I push down on the left analog stick and move to the right I hear a click noise.
Solution: You need to shave off some of the board inside. Check out the picture on number 20 to show what you need to shave down.
