I know, but its not like that... its not copying games.... its playing emulators, and other apps that run on the Wii.. I just installed it, and now have access to Snes, nes, sega genesis emulation... along with DVD playback..
just wondering who else has gone forward in fixing their Wii up |

My Wii has almost nothing official in it anymore. Its pretty cool, although I have a PS3 for blu-ray playback so I don't use the Wii much for media. Having the emulators is nice though. Big fan of the Gamecube controller.
One side note on your post, don't watch DVDs on your Wii. Drive in it wasn't meant to read data on DVD movies, and you will burn out your laser super fast. Rip them to a file and play them through a hard drive with Mplayer if you NEED to use the Wii for playback, but any other alternative you could use would be a much better idea. _________________

so I found a forum page that gives more in depth hacking of the Wii .. the Wii is only 200, so I went and hacked the heck out of it. so, now instead of using sd cards, I have a 1TB hard drive attached that can save alllllll my roms, for nes, snes, etc.
better cheat management system is also one of the better updates. also having Prii loader installed, means you can brick it.... but restore it with a Nand backup - its a 528 meg file that is a snapshot of the wii in current state. so, anything you do after, you dont have to worry. so far, all the messing I did with it, no problems. as long as you follow the guides step by step.
and yes........ I now can save games to hard drive. for faster loading and cheat system. I only do it cause I dont do well with discs... I do scratch them, or borrow them to those who do.. but it is nice to have them right their.....
we should mod a system in the point store and load games on a hard drive their for people to check out.... cause all mods are legal on the wii.. |

installing a mod chip and the software to play roms and backups is illegal as it circumvents the security embedded in the Wii because of the DMCA. Its also illegal for DVDs to be ripped and backuped as it circumvents the security embedded in the DVD because of the DMCA. |

| no.... nintendo didnt put it in writing, and no - you dont have to take it apart - its just a simple flash, and a custom IOS that runs all the extra..... someone at nintendo should get fired for not reading the docs over.... it is good for people who have a lot of wii games - and kids - so the discs are ripped to a hard drive, and you just select from a menu what game... easier than swappin disc.. |

as long as your softmod doesn't include any Nintendo code then its legal.
however stuff for the Original Xbox dashboards such as EvolutionX, Avalaunch, among others are illegal as they include Microsoft's code.
the Xbox part is what i based my earlier post on. |
