REVIEW

This is the latest offering in the long and great list of Battlefield games. This game, however, is different from the others in that it actually has a fun story mode with an interesting tale to tell.

PLOT
When you mess up one too many times, the army sends you to B Company, aka Bad Company. You play as Private Preston Marlowe, who is one of a group of fun/interesting characters in the story mode. Each of them is sent to B Company for their own reasons and some of them simply chose to join B Company.

Eventually, your squad comes across members of a mercenary group who are thought by some to be a myth. Turns out, this mercenary group is paid directly in gold bars... This is where things get interesting.

SETTING
This game takes place mostly in Russia and surrounding areas with parts of the game (including multiplayer) obviously set in desert regions.

GAMEPLAY
This game features pretty standard FPS gameplay with a variety of weapons and vehicles for you to try out. The single player campaign is actually well done and allows you to try out each of the weapons, which can be helpful for deciding which ones you want to unlock for multiplayer.

The environmental damage gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling not unlike what Red Faction did when it came out. Nearly everything can have a hole blown in it or can be completely taken down.

While the single player mode is fun (and takes around 10 or so hours) the multiplayer is what you want to buy this game for. Currently, the only multiplayer mode available is "Gold Rush." In this mode, one group is designated the attackers and one the defenders. The attackers' goal is to try to destroy the defenders' gold crates at their numerous bases. The only problem I've noticed with this system is that it seems a little easy to be defenders as I've played probably 40+ games now and I've only seen attackers win 5 times.

Your actions earn you points and with points you level up your rank allowing you to unlock new weapons and items. Personally, I found the easiest way to level up to be the Support class since healing teammates gives you major points and you also get the BA large-caliber/tons of rounds guns (think the Saw).

Despite the current lack of Conquest mode, which many Battlefield veterans are accustomed to, this mode is currently being developed and will be released as a FREE download via XBL on August 7th (a day from me writing this).

GRAPHICS
The graphics are good, but not the most beautiful I've ever seen. However, with all the things that happen during gameplay (especially online) the framerate never dropped once for me. Due to this, I'd say the graphics are pretty good.

The explosions look great and the destruction comes off looking realistic.

SOUND
The sound effects in this game are definitely good quality. The music and voice actors are also great. The opening song is actually a really fun song to just listen to. The guns and vehicles all sound great and never make any odd sounds from what I've noticed.

SUMMARY
This game is just plain FUN. There's not a lot else that can be said about it. It offers a fun storyline and great multiplayer experience. In fact, the multiplayer experience here is the reason to buy the game. The choice between which class of character to take, whether Assault, Support, Recon, Specialist, or Demolitions make this game a fun squad game. It also makes for an interesting strategy game since a team of only Demolitions characters simply won't get the job done.

If you don't have XBL, I would recommend that you rent this game. That is, unless you're really in the mood for an interesting, albeit fairly easy
story mode. As stated above, the story flows well and is interesting the whole way through, but in no way is it COD4.

It makes me sad that I've only borrowed this game from GG to review...

Overall Score: 8.7/10

I’ve been looking at this game, but not sure if I was going to buy it or not. It’s hard to take reviews seriously from IGN, Gamespot, etc… because they are so biased. They are limited in what they can say, and afraid to be honest in their reviews.

You’ve always had great taste in games! Since you’ve rated this one so high… I’ll have to give it a shot. Thanks

I have to agree, I got Bad Company the week it released and I've only played Call of Duty 4 twice since then and Halo 3 once. The rest of the time, it's always BC. They are releasing a new multiplayer game type tomorrow, 8/7

Yeah, it just crazy fun. I'm actually excited because it's Conquest, which is so much more fun to me than the Gold Rush stuff. Gold Rush is fun, but destroying the crates with heavy weapons from far away is just to easy.

It is pretty easy but it's not a real common practice it seems. Coordinated assualts and planting the time bomb is more popular and pretty effective.

Well, when I had the game and my team had trouble I'd just spawn as a Demo guy and launch rockets from a decent distance.

OK well i don't own but a friend does and after about 12 hours of continuous play i would have to say that this game is awsome ...

perks:
they throw in alot of humerous stuff from the other characters and give them very good personalities playing through the campaign i felt like i was playing with some crazy ppl on live...

over all good story line i like the whole kind of outcast thing where they're the Bcompany.s..

down side::

ok well live play is fun i like that they have different classes not just same old thing every time but they need more game types they gold rush is pretty fun but it gets old especialy after like more than 5 hours of playing the same old thing

over all i'd rate this game a 4.5 of 5 a definate try and buy if your not the whole war based gamer type....

Have you tried Conquest mode? I prefer it to Gold Rush, it's not as cheap.

I just spent like an hour typing up a review for BC before realizing there was already a review for it....that I posted in. So I'm just going to tack on a little summary for the Conquest online game type.

In conquest you play on a pretty large map with 5 bases. Each team gets their own home base (which you can lose) and a limited number of "tickets" or lives. At each base there is a flag, reach one of them and kill off any competition to put up your own flag and take the base. Once one of the team has 3 or more flags, the enemies tickets will start to go down over time. The vastness of the maps encourages long range fighting and heavy vehicle use.
Assault: This is a great map for this kit. They can cover all ranges well and are perfect for taking and defending flags. While their lack of vehicle busting can be a problem, many of the bases have rocket turrets.
Demolitions: While your short range puts you at a severe disadvantage here, you are ideal for flag defense. As many players assault via vehicle you are well equipped to stop enemy advances with AT mines and your rocket launcher.
Specialist: Again, like Demo your short range provides you some issues here, but you are more easily able to sneak into enemy bases and take their flags. C4 is less useful as you don't want to blow up the target and enemies don't have to get very close to take over the flag. It's primarily good for booby-trapping vehicles. Tracers also make taking out the many tanks and jeeps much easier.
Recon: These maps were more or less made for you. The wide open areas and many hiding spots are ideal for crouching down and shooting hapless opponents. The motion sensor is also great for defending your flag. The only real downside here is that since the maps are so large and open, your opponents are spread all over and it can be harder to locate a target.
Support: This is a great map to bring your healing and vehicle repair abilities into play. The ability to lay down withering covering fire or use mortar strikes to keep your enemies heads down is considerably less useful as enemies can stay on the move near the flag and still capture it, and will spend a lot of time in vehicles. Your ability to keep your teammates in the fight as you travel from one base to the next is invaluable however. Assuming your teammates don't just zerg in and throw themselves bodily at their enemies in waves of futile suicide attacks.

Support was my bread and butter. I just started getting good at Demo when I had to turn it back in. I had just got that really BA shotgun...
