Okay, just let me say that I know that I am late on this, no need to tell me that. Just let me put it to you this way...SSBB + Guitar Hero + Work = Not enough time lol. I tried writing this before, and I screwed up somewhere along the line to where it all deleted, but I am here, and I am ready to give another rock solid review!
Overview:
Just like previous Smash Brothers games, this one definately lives up to the hype that was built for this amazing game. This is the game I have waited for since January 28th, At 12:16:37 AM, for $262.95 (after taxes). Now note the fact that even just with two attack buttons, Smash Brothers is one of the best, the best imo, fighting games ever created. It is so simplistic, yet fun, which you can't find out of most games, but when it comes to Nintendo, simple and fun is something of a trademark. This game is everything I have wanted and more, and it is the perfect sequel to the best selling Super Smash Brothers Melee. Melee was the best selling game on the GCN, and I have a feeling that Brawl will be the best selling game on the Wii.
Story: Unlike previous Smash Brothers titles, Brawl has the addition of a full story mode. And what is most interesting about the story mode, is how they pulled it off. It is just amazing the number of cutscenes that are able to tell a story with as little voice work that is done for the game. Not to mention how beautiful that this game looks in and out of scene. Although playing through the side-scroller is quite linear, it offers so much to do. With an approx. run time of ten hours, the story mode is very fun, with the exception of the Great Maze. Once you make it through, sure, it makes for a better experience, but it is very annoying lol. The other great thing about the story mode, is you can use it to unlock every character, but two.
Gameplay: Here is where the game truely shines in every aspect of the word. Brawl is just that simple fun that you know that you can love. It is very hard to hate this game while playing it (with the exception of playing with just a Wii-Remote, or playing me ). One thing I do need to say first though, before you play Brawl, try to make sure you at least have a GCN controller, or a Classic Controller, to have a really good experience with the game. With about ten more characters to choose from then Melee, and all new stages, it is hard to want to stop playing this game. Even with only having two attack buttons, Attack and Special Attack, and again, simplistic, yet fun.
The big addition to the new Smash Brothers is the Smash Ball. This is the most powerful item ever in a Smash Brothers game if used right. Some Final Smash moves are very powerful, while some seem like they need some work. The best one we have found so far is none other than Samus' Zero Laser. If you are able to get the Smash Ball, then get to one side of the stage, everybody else is just simply owned.
Graphics: Even though with the game looking very similar to Melee, you can notice the small, subtle graphical inhancements. Although, with this game, graphics are really no object, because they really matter in this game very little, with the exception of the story mode. The game looks about the best that you will get on the Wii though.
Sound: The sound work in this game is simply amazing, sure, there is very little voice acting, but the main portion of sound is devoted to the music. Some of the greatest theme songs from all the games that the characters represent are here, with some of which being remixed, like the original Super Mario Bros. Theme. Each character has a entire setlist of songs devoted to the games in which they come from. What makes it even better, is how you can change what songs play on what levels.
Each stage is preset with songs that would be applicable to that particular stage, and you can decide on how often they play on that certain stage. Like take Sonic's Green Hill Zone for instance. Of all the music that they have on this game for Sonic, the only one that I like having on is Sonic Boom (awesome song).
Lasting Appeal: There is no way that this game will be one sitting on the shelf for long. There is just too much to do here, and the best part about it is that if you get tired of the stages on the game? No worries, just build your own! Also, some of the best quotes in video game history will be found said while playing Brawl. We have two of them now...
1. Dude! I'm a freaking Tank!!! (While using Fox's final smash)
2. What the F***? I was just eaten by a fish! (Standing in the water on the Ice Climbers level)
If you find any other awesome quotes said while playing Brawl, please, don't hesitate to send them to me
Overall All I have left to say, is if you have a Wii...Do not make this game a thought, make it a must. If you are a Wii Owner and do not yet own this game, you deserve to be smacked upside the head, and thrown in the toilet.
