XBOX 360 MOTHERBOARDS

MOTHERBOARD VERSIONS

Xenon - The initial motherboard version that used a 203W power supply.

Zephyr - A revision was largely the same aside from the addition of an HDMI port.

Falcon - Incorporated a 65nm CPU, but still used a 90nm GPU, and came packaged with a 175W power supply.

Jasper - Released late August or early September 2008 used both a 65nm CPU and GPU, as well as 256MB of internal flash memory on-board (this was to help run a then-recent Dashboard update. Without this internal memory, a hard drive or memory card was required). The power supply was also reduced to 150W in the "Jasper" revision. The power connector on the back of the system incorporated a "keying" system that will prevent plugging a lower-rated power supply into an older system

Opus - (Not yet released) Opus is expected to be composed of returned (pre-Falcon) motherboards with newer 65nm chips replacing the defective ones.

Valhalla - (Not yet released) Expected to include a CPU and GPU unified into one chip, manufactured at the 65nm process. This revision will reduce production costs, as only one chip will be manufactured rather than two individual chips, and a simpler cooling system will be utilized.

NOTE: FOR NOW, YOU WANT A JASPER BOARD AS IT HELPS PREVENT RED LIGHTS!

There have been no known Jasper boards in Elite's. About 50% of the Pro systems have Jaspers. 90% of Arcades have Jaspers. So your best bet to get a Jasper would be to buy an Arcade version for now.

HOW TO TELL IF YOU HAVE A JASPER BOARD

Look through the little side window on the Xbox 360 box, which is used to scan the bar code on the 360. You're looking for the 12V rating which is left to the bar code. You need push the Xbox a bit to the right (and maybe even down) so you can get a glimpse at the rating. If it says 12.1A, then you're set, it is a Jasper model.

Of course there are other ways to tell if the model you've just bought is a Jasper. You can look at the power connector when you unpack the console. If you can see two flat bars on top of the metal 6 metal connectors, then you have a Jasper. If there's only one long bar, then you either have a Falcon, or, God forbid, a refurbished Zephyr board.

Sometime in 2009 the Valhalla & Opus Xbox 360 motherboard will be released.

Just so you guys know, since there hasn't been any revision in design as far as voltage and internal layout go, the Jasper boards aren't RROD-proof. If you have one, good luck, but until there is a revision in how voltage is handled within the box, you are just as likely to have a system crash...
