FOLKLORE
Publisher: SCEA, Game Republic
Release Date: 10/9/2007
Genre: Action/Adventure
Number of Players: 1
ESRB Rating: Teen
----------------------------------------------------------
Overview
This week, broke out the PS3 and dove into the world of the action/adventure Folklore....I popped it in, let it load, and immediately wanted to shut it off. You do have to sit through a lot of crap to get the game going.
You get to play as 2 people, Ellen and keats. Quick word of advice: Play as Ellen, then Keats, then Ellen, and back to Keats...wash, rinse, repeat. The game will make more sense. Ellen is called to the town of Doolin after receiving a letter about her mother's death, some 17 years eaerlier. Keats is a paranormal investigator of sorts, and he gets a weird phone call, telling him to go to the same place. From there, you get to check out the real world(not the show, but the Miz still rocks)and the Netherworld.
Getting into the Netherworld is where all the good stuff goes down. You come across some interesting characters, both friends and foes. Right off the bat you absorb the souls of 2 undead, therefore, you get their power. This is a recurring thing throughout the game, and it is awesome! Some of the powers you get from undead beings will just rock worlds. (Hint: When fighting bigger guys, look for a colored arrow above their head. Your powers work on some characters, and not others.)
On to the technical stuff. Gameplay is great. The map is sometimes a pain in the ass when you're looking at it. Too many loading screens, even when you're just moving down the same path. Like I said before, you have to sit through a lot of crap just to get the game moving, but it truly is worth it.
Right now, it escapes my mind, but while playing as Keats(don't remember if you get it while playing Ellen), you get another power-up bar. As I called it, Keats will "Hulk out" when this bar is full, and you hit both "3" buttons. He turns blue, his eyes glow, and his ass kicking abilities get to be so much more.
I recommend giving it a go. If have have the patience to sit through loading screens, and the stupid talk screens, you're free! Happy Gaming!

Not too much of a role-playing gamer I see. If you don't have patience with story elements or "stupid talk screens", then you must not have patience with RPGs.
Folkore is an artistic game of true greatness. It is a thriving world of mystical characters. Its presentation is compelling, and the gameplay is great, but not of a typical RPG.
I recommend anyone who is into RPGs (or overall artistic games) to try this one out. _________________

Not really an RPG-er, but I did like the game. And it was more the amount of loading that had to happen. Once the game got moving, I was really into it.....hence me suggesting it be played.
If I didn't like it, I would definitely say so
Oh, and if you're just gonna roll around to rail on people's reviews, get over it. Its one person's perspective of a game. Thats it. There's gonna be games I like, that you don't. Thats life.....things called opinions do exist. |

In the original review, before you changed it, there was more negative stuff about the game than positive. I wanted to make sure people knew what to expect, and not be mislead by all the negative points. And if "things called opinions do exist" why can't I post my own? _________________

I changed the look of the review but the text was all the same. Nothing was changed besides the layout _________________

I do respect opinions, but when you're just giving out false info, thats when I say something.
Here's the thing you're not going to realize, so I'm going to point it out. I'm not a huge gamer. I don't wait with baited breath for games. I'm reviewing from the "every guy" approach. I don't love certain types of games. So I review them like a regular person. I'm trying to help out people who are just looking for something new, fun, and that they can enjoy. I will tell the game like I see it. I thought Folklore was a pain in the rear because of loading screens, and the lengthy talk sequences.
Thats how I see it. You're more than welcome to tell me I'm a tard, or whatever. I'm reviewing these from the casual gamer approach, and thats how I'm going to continue to do it. If you want to follow me around a trash every single review I do, have at it. I hope it brings peace to your life. |

Well I can understand where you are coming from a Casual Gamer standpoint, but you don't have to play games all the time to be considered a hardcore gamer. Do you think that a casual gamer would be found playing something like Folklore? Casual Gamers are those that play Bejewed or Zuma religiously, or something to that effect, like Solitare
You don't have to be that into games to be considered a Hardcore gamer _________________

By casual gamer, I mean anyone that has some free time, and wants to blow it on a game. They go to the video store, walk around aimlessly, and grab something.
Thats me. I am that guy. I play when I have free time, and when I do have that free time, i want to play something worth while. Thats how I look at these games |
