I just finished Tales of Symphonia Dawn of a New World so I thought I would give a review a shot. Just a heads up there may be a bit of spoilers for this game or if you havn't play the first tales of symphonia. Just a warning.
PLOT
Your home town is attacked by Lloyd Irving. In this attack he kills your parents so you move with your aunt and uncle in Luin. It is here you meet the mysterious girl Marta and set out to awake lord Ratatosk to restore the world to normal
SETTING
The game is set in the same world as the first Tales of Symphonia so you will be visiting a lot of the same places. Also how you get around has changed. Instead of wandering around from town to town, fighting monsters, it sends you to the town right away.
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay hasn't changed much from the rest of the tales series. There are two differences since it is on the wii. To use the sorcerer's ring you have to aim with the wii remote and press A to fire it. Also if you want you can hold down B and use the wii remote to move your character in town, however you have to use the thumb stick in combat. Also new to this Tales is making pacts with monsters. Your party can consist of monsters. The biggest problem I have with this is your friends can't play as the monsters, only as the other normal characters in your group. This Tales is a bit easier then the rest of the series in my opinion. If plowing right through you can beat it in under 30 hours. There are no need for magic lens in this game. When you target an enemy you can see how much HP they have left. The game only lets you play as two new characters, Emil and Marta. The rest of your group consists of either monsters you have made pacts with or characters from the previous Symphonia game. While it is nice to play as these characters again I feel it would of been nice to have some new characters as well to join your group.
GRAPHICS
The graphics are alright. All cutscenes are with ingame graphics. There isnt any animated cutscenes in this one that I found. The graphics do look decent for the wii
SUMMARY
All and all I did enjoy this game. It was nice to dive back into the Symphonia world. The battles are fun as always in the tales series. If you are new to the tales series this is not the game to start off with. It will not change anyones mind about this series. Also it is a very good idea to play the first Tales of Symphonia first. You don't have to but it will help you a lot with what is going on. The first game is refernced a lot.
SCORE
I give this game a 7/10

| they are rpgs with action combat. the combat is the best part of the game most of the time. some of them have pretty predictable stories but otherwise I think they are great, but I'm a fan boy of them. |
