| By Zach: I was pleasantly surprised with this year’s version of 2K Sports baseball game. I did not play last year's rendition, but compared to the 2007 version the series has come a long way. The game looks great on the XBOX360 a definite improvement from two years ago. Players are easily recognizable along with their unique batting stances. The stadiums are also well-done. Where the presentation really becomes impressive is in all of the little things such as the ability to see your pitchers warming up in the bullpen and all of the various crowd animations. The sound is spot-on, the commentary is excellent, even at times team and player specific. The sounds from the field and stadium blend smoothly together to create a convincing atmosphere. There are some small problems with the play control. This is most obvious when fielding; tagging players is almost impossible and pitching and throwing between bases can take some getting used to. Pitching is done with the right thumb stick. At first I struggled with this mechanic but now that I have adjusted to it I do not think I will ever be able to go back. The game has all of the game modes that are usual to baseball. Franchise mode tracks more statistics than what is natural. One mode I would like to see added is a mode that would resemble superstar mode. I know that this is available in MLB The Show but I do not own a PlayStation 3. This is a very solid baseball game and will definitely satisfy. I give it a 8.2 out of 10. |
