Gaming Generations :: First thoughts on Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

Graphics are great, sound is great, both are standard to the series on the DS at least. Characters are ok. Plot is kind of weird. It's less about Dracula and more about this emo little vampire hunter club. I'm sure Drac will pop up eventually.

For anybody else who is a fan of the metroid style of Castlevania (large sprawling castle requiring special abilities and upgrades to progress through.) Do yourself a favor and skip this one. You get a world map and you go from spot to spot moving through mostly linear levels. Hell, Dracula and Dracula's castle haven't even shown up yet. How can you have a Castlevania game without a castle?

This isn't to say it's a bad game. It plays very well, is extremely challenging and still seems to have a fair amount of exploration. The monsters, playstyle and feel of the game are very castlevania. It just doesn't have the sprawling castle exploration and backtracking.
