Fans of Call of Duty packed into the library Jan. 30th for an exhibition tournament Jan. 30th. What was supposed to be a small tournament turned into a large one. Nobody could have predicted the turn out to be so high. 164 players was the final count.
Call of Duty now days is what Halo used to be. The tables have turned, a full 180 switch has been made by most FPS players. It's a fact, many previous hardcore Halo players have put the game down to compete in COD.
The top teams from around the area came to show off their skills. With the high volume of people, the staff at Gaming Generations and the library were able to run through the tournament in just under 7 hours. Not bad considering there were only 16 setups. Players eagerly waited for their team name to be called.
It came down to the the finals between team "We are Superior" and team "La Muerte Peluda".
Since there was complaining throughout the day of teams "camping" we decided to throw a curve ball in at the end for the finals round. After all, it was a free "just for fun" tournament. The players were forced to use riot shield on default class and played CTF on the map high rise. The second game was tactical team deathmatch 3rd person. The third game was regular team deathmatch.
In the end team "We Are Superior" squeezed by with the win. It was unbelievable how well these teams worked together. It was very entertaining listening to them communicate, they had the game down to a science.
The MVP of the tournament was a difficult decision to make. There were so many great players that were considered. Trevor from team KLRZ ended up taking this award due to his amazing gameplay and crazy fast reaction speed. Trevor had the best and most consistent kill death ratio throughout the tournament. After watching him play through a few matches, it was easy to say he was one of the most, if not the most skilled player in the tournament. His team placed 3rd after losing a tightly matched up game against We Are Superior, the champions of the tournament.
Thank you very much to all who attended this free tournament. The result of the high turnout today hopefully helped the library boost it's future efforts on the gaming side of things. Getting all 164 players through in under 7 hours was pure magic. We wanted to also thank everybody for waiting so patiently. This was by far the biggest tournament La Crosse has ever seen. A big thanks to the Library as well for putting the effort into making this free tournament happen. Stay tuned for future tournaments. _________________

I think the winning team should change their team name to "We are 15"
and you can't expect to throw a bunch of guys in a room, with 16 xbox's and expect anything but a sweaty congested mess. _________________ Show me respect, I'll show you respect.
